Combining dioramas

Combining dioramas

Postby jpachl » Mon Jul 27, 2015 2:49 am

Having already photographed my TT scale dioramas from almost any possible viewing angle, I tried something new by combining two separate dioramas for one photo scene. In this photo, I used my boxfile diorama (see https://flic.kr/s/aHsk1djdUu) to extend the background of my Diesel City scene. This way, it creates the illusion of a large and dusty industrial urban area with several railroad facilities. Making the backdrop heaven match required some photo editing, however.

It looks really great, like out of reality.

It's fantastic! Now just add a bit more rolling stock.

When I took this photo, there were just the two boxcars

In the meantime, I came along again, but from the other site. This time, I had more luck with seing some rolling stock.

Joern, wonderful work! Beautiful. (I'm replying to an August posting, I see I'm late to the game again. . . .)

Got a question for you, please, about the buildings on your dioramas. Model structures and backdrop photos both used? (I have to ask because I can't tell, it's seamless.)

My cave is 12ft x 28ft, most of the around-the-room benchwork is up. One long wall is mostly staging, the rest is the stage (with stage right, stage left, I guess you could say). The first phase of the layout is a reworked Kingsbury Branch (Bill Denton's 21" x 12ft N scale layout featured in several articles) upsized to TT scale (28" x 16ft). Reworking includes a double-track main with broad curves. (Aisle is top.)

I've attached a drawing of what I've got so far. Red is the mains, Purple industrial. Off the the right I'd like to include a passenger station requiring switching.

The Kingsbury Branch is based on a Milwaukee Road switching area in Chicago. I'm worried about getting structures for the layout within the confines of my lifetime ;-) Would you please point me to where you bought (unless you scratch-built them all!) your buildings?

Again, gorgeous work.
