Cattle car usage

Does anybody have any info about stock cars/cattle cars usage in 1950s?
RailTT announced new stock car ( stock-car-t1861.html )

Sometimes ago Marquette told us about boxcars, gondolas and flatcars usage, but what about stock cars?
Were there used in interchange service? Or maybe they worked only on their "home roads"?

For example, if I model SOO Line in Wisconsin, would it be correct to take stock car lettered as "Rio Grande"?
Was it possible for stock car to travel all across the America?
Or maybe it would be better to take "Northern Pacific"? Or Soo Line only?

What types of stock cars were in service? Were they standartized or not?..

Oh, they definitely were in interchange service.

Stock cars are not something I ever really studied because they're very peripheral to my primary interests, so there's probably someone else who can give better info, but as I understand, they mostly went from the ranching areas to the slaughterhouses - Chicago had an enormous number of slaughterhouses... they didn't range as widely as boxcars, is fairly certain.

So I'd say for your Soo Line in Wisconsin, you might plausibly see stock cars from your area - Soo, NP, Great Northern, Green Bay & Western and whatever else that's local to the area, taking the livestock to slaughterhouses in Milwaukee or Chicago or wherever, and then returning empty.

Sometimes though, they were used for other purposes, too - the Quebec Central, for example, used stock cars to carry pulpwood...

Ok, if so, I'll take one or two Northern Pacific and hope it will be good!

I have some TT-cows from Noch (or Preiser?) so I want to use them for cattle, not pulpwood... :hand:
