Building Car/trailer carrier

Crap - I just realized the autoracks ride on 28" wheels. This is 5.93mm in TT and I know of no one producing this size. Because of that I don't think this car is a good idea.

If my math is right, 28" TT is 0.2333333..." in reality, which translates to 37" in N scale. Northwest Short Line makes 36" wheels in N scale... going the other way, 36" in N scale is 0.225" in reality, translating to 27" in TT. So using the NWSL 36" N scale wheels would make for wheels 1" too small in TT. Within reason, I think?

1" small is definitely reasonable - tire wear and all that. But since it's N scale, are those wheels easily mountable to a tt scale width axle? And are there bare tt scale axles available?

It costs a bit, but NWSL will provide axles for TT onto which you can mount wheels, so you could get whichever axle is needed to fit the wheel you want, cut to the length you want... though maybe could use stock HOn3 axles, which could be cheaper that way?

The NWSL site is very worth a good poking-through if you need wheels...

Yeah it's hard to find anything on that site. I'll dig around for the double stack.

Hmm, I guess you and Norkin should figure this out - no point in double development.

Hi all,

this freight car is not mine. It is from our US Group!
