Building American/Canadian boxcars in Vladivostok

Postby Arseny » Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:20 am

During the World War I, in 1915-1917, Russia purchased over 8000 boxcars in USA and Canada.
They were built in New Glasgow (Canada) and New York and Pittsburgh (USA).
These cars were delivered non-assembled to Vladivostok and were assembled in Russia, in Vladivostok

Some of them survive even today, as MOW cars. And in the railroad museums too.

That is very interesting. It is amazing how much stuff there is to see and learn about railroading around the world, thanks to the internet.
