The BR 119/229 and the BR 180 are different locomotives.

Here's a couple of links for you:

And some are still in service, like 118 002 from the ITL with a new paint in 2013.

Oh sorry, U-boat is for me U-boat, regardless of whether 4 or 6 axles.

But the same at the 119/219. Some are still in service, all of them modernized to 229.
229 147 DB Bahnbau (= Rail Builder)
229 120 MEG

At 2001 start a last try to modernizes a 219. The 219 158 got a new standard driver stand and two Caterpillar 1.500kw engines. But only one prototype was build. Since 2003 is it at the DB Museum and got her DR paint and number 119 158. Still in service for special trips.

Which "specific information" do you need?

Currently in use are only few locomotives.
  • Two locomotives (229 147-4 and 229 181-3) are used in MOW services by DB Netz (yellow with light blue stripes). Further two units belong to the same branch of DB and got the same colors but were abandoned soon after they were recolored.
  • Two locomotives—numbers 301 and 302 (former series 229)—are used by Mitteldeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (MEG; Middle German Railroad Company; subsidiary of DB). Further two locomotives are used by this company for spare-parts canibalizing.
  • Twelve units (series 219) have been taken over by DB Schenker's Romanian and Bulgarian subsidiaries, respectively.

Six units are preserved for museum purposes: 219 003-1, 219 084-1, 229 100-3, 219 158-3, 229 188-8 and 229 199-5.

Oh yes! They had!
That's why in the 1980's, more than half of the fleet stayed idle waiting for replacement parts.
That's why the first locomotives had been scrapped before the last ones were delivered.
That's why a part of the order was cancelled.
That's why these locomotives were called "Ceauşescu's revenge".

That's right. Series 119 (from 1992 on series 219; after alteration series 229) and series V180 (from 1970 on series 118; from 1992 on series 228) were different locomotive types.
But because the engines of series 119 were not satisfying, many locomotives got them replaced. They received the same diesels also used in series 118.

Wrong again!
Only series 119 (from 1992 on series 219; after alteration series 229) was called "U-Boot" (German for "submarine") because of their round engine room windows (bull's-eyes). Series V180 (from 1970 on series 118; from 1992 on series 228) was never called so!
