BEER!

Postby ConducTTor » Mon Aug 24, 2009 5:24 pm

Any beer lovers out there? Lately I've been drinking nothing but IPAs and recently found out that the IPA is actually an American specialty. The origins are in the UK and lots of export and consumption to India - hence the 'India' in India Pale Ale but it is now purely an American craft. For those of you who don't know about IPAs, they are very hoppy - it's like drinking a bouquet

My faves starting with the IPA staple: Sierra Nevada - a long time ago when I had my first one I had no idea what it was but I loved it! http://www.sierranevada.com/
Lately I've been trying out as many IPAs as I can find and have not been disappointed with any of the following:
Victory Hop Devil http://www.victorybeer.com/ - serious hops - like a punch in the face :D
Magic Hat #9 http://www.magichat.net/ - very interesting split second of aftertaste makes you think of desert
Stone IPA http://www.stonebrew.com/ipa/
Jockamo Abita IPA http://shop.abita.com/

More as they come to me.....

Thanks, that's one I haven't tried. I will look for it in Atlanta's finer establishments :D

ConducTTor,

I take it that this is a hint?

I will be in Duluth this Thursday to visit the South Eastern RR Museum.

We went to Duluth today, only to find that the placer is closed Mon, Tue, Wed this time of year, so we went to the World of Coke, and boy, are my kidneys screaming for mercy right now.

Does Hooters work for a watering hole for you?

I may or may not be back online before Thurs, as I am checking a few things over here in my dad's house in GA.

I love beer, but my kidneys hate it, more than one or two beers in a day and it feels like someone is stabbing me right where my kidneys are at.

Screw connecticut.

Nothing known for me... :(

I like Russian and Czech beer. Such as Czech "Prazhechka"

Do you know any Russian beer brands?

In Ontario you can buy Russian beer (a nice side-effect of government monopoly on alcohol retail sales), but I prefer Canadian-made stuff. I find it's better than most imported beers. Small and "micro" independent breweries have been around for some time, but have really taken off in the last few years.

Czech beer is good stuff. I like both Czechvar and Pilsner Urquell. I've never had the opportunity to try Russian beers - vodka on the other hand..........

Czech beer is good, and is a benchmark for Easter European beers, at least in my opinion.
For vodka, I prefer Absolut.
As for the Russian stuff, I like Russian wome, so much so that I married one.

Not to hijack a beer thread with vodka but 'Russian Standard' vodka is very good.
