Automatic DCC coupler (Kadee)

Automatic DCC coupler (Kadee)

Postby CN-TT » Tue Apr 29, 2014 2:03 pm

Hi,

I just finished a boxcar with independent DCC Kadee couplers on each side.
It's equiped with a micro servo with built-in dcc decoder. The servo arm delivers the servo motion to the wires underneath the floor and to the coupler. The wire near the coupler makes a downward swinging motion and moves the coupler aside.
IT WORKS!!!

Now I have to fit something similar into the SW1200

Excellent, Björn.
Is it possible to get the mechanism up into the car and out of sight? Turn the motor arm up 90 or 180 degrees and have the wire cranks stick up into the car?

Thanks guys,

@dilleTTante: Oh man, sure it is possible!!! Why haven't you told me that a few weeks earlier!? Honestly, I never took this into consideration  :wall:
@Bernd: I thought about the biowire/musclewire once or twice but with the servo I don't have to worry about the duration of the activated function (heat of the biowire). This means also less parts/money. The servo is 40$ inlc. the decoder.
Would you mind if I send you another video of this boxcar working behind a loco?
