AstroGoat and CaTT's 2017 TT Scale Resolutions

AstroGoat and CaTT's 2017 TT Scale Resolutions

Postby AstroGoat760 » Sun Jan 01, 2017 4:31 pm

My TT scale resolutions for 2017 are as follows:

1.) Build a new portable TT scale layout.
2.) Be more active on TTnut.com and in the model railroad community to "work for" TT scale.
3.) Commission 12 North American proto TT scale locomotives (via "3R", purchase, kit building, modification, etc.)
4.) Place 24 TT scale N/A proto rail cars in service (via scratch-build, kit build, "3R", modification, etc.)
5.) Commission 12 vehicles/trailers in TT scale (via scratch-build, kit, purchase)

"3R" is Refit/Restoration/Repair.
For the purposes of the loco resolution, dummy locos will only count if as part of a power/dummy matched set.
For the purposes of the rail-car resolution, cars must be fitted with couplers and trucks and made usable on a layout.

Status will be shown here as follows:
1.) Layout (Status of layout)
2.) In progress (To be assessed at the end of 2017)
3.) Locos X/12
4.) Railcars X/24
5.) Vehicles X/12

Thanks for any advice and comments ahead of time.

One piece of advice: limit your goals. You're more likely to get something done if the mountain to climb is not as tall. I would start with whatever project will yield the most satisfaction - for me that's a layout (permanent or module based doesn't matter). That allows you to actually do something with the models you will be building in the future.

There is a reason why CaTT put her foot down after resolution #5.

Resolution 1 has been a goal that is easily done this year.
Resolution 2 should be easily done compared to 2016.
Resolutions 3-5 will be somewhat easier as there is a backlog of locos, railcars, and vehicles to be finished/restored/completed.

I think that my list of resolutions/goals is achievable with some work. I feel that the hurdles are "just right" not too tall and not too short.

I really do appreciate the critique, Alex.

Mine are similar...

1) Put in service: 1 freight car 'runner' every 2 weeks (couplers/brakes/weathering): Total 26
2) Build/put in-service 1 high-detail project car every month: Total 12
3) Put in-service: 1 locomotive every 2 months (3 DCC + 3 DCC+sound): Total 6
4) Finish scenery for TT-Tracks double-double (2x 2-meters) by mid-year
5) Build and attach layout base (foam + ply-framed sections) around 10x10 'Train Room"... by EoY

...and then there is TT-West!

Trust me, TT-West will play a part in my rolling stock portion of my New Year's Resolution. Expect an order or two in 2017.

Regarding the resolutions, the following metrics will be used:

1.) Build a new portable TT scale layout. Self explanatory.

2.) Be more active on TTnut.com and in the model railroad community to "work for" TT scale. Self explanatory.

3.) Commission 12 North American proto TT scale locomotives Restore locos to service and/or convert locos to Kadee 713/714 couplers and/or start the conversion from non-N/A proto to N/A proto.Paint and decal as able, but not required for this metric.

4.) Place 24 TT scale N/A proto rail cars in service Purchase complete RTR cars and/or Install trucks and newer couplers (Kadee 713/714) on each railcar.

5.) Commission 12 vehicles/trailers in TT scale Purchase complete or complete from kit and/or scratch painting is required, decaling as able, but not required.

Status Report 01/05/2017:

1.) Layout design in progress
2.) Participation Increase in progress
3.) Locos 2/12
4.) Railcars 3/24
5.) Vehicles 0/12

Two BTTB steamers have started the modification process to be "North Americanized" (Class 86, and Class 92 - both to receive tenders).

Three Gold Coast boxcars have received Kadee 713/714 couplers.

Status Report 01/06/2017:

1.) Layout design in progress - finalizing plans
2.) Participation Increase in progress
3.) Locos 5/12
4.) Railcars 3/24
5.) Vehicles 0/12

Two possible small layouts have been designed, one two loop bedding track design 4'x3'), and one with a single loop with a spur siding. (3'6"x2'6").

Two more BTTB 0-8-0 chassis have started the preliminary steps in "North Americanization", both to be completed as 0-8-0 Camelback locomotives, likely as a set of twins.

A 0-4-0 Docksider has been restored to operation, painting remains to be planned and completed:
