The 3x4 layout is under construction: leftover components from the S scale layout I am working on are coming in handy here!

Well, we have run into a problem:

Track.

Should we continue to try to get the bedding track, or should I use the advanced track?

I would suggest the Advanced Track for a layout. It's should be cheaper and looks better.

I do have one loop of bedding track that I can turn into a small layout on it's own, perhaps I will build two portable
layouts, just which one to start with? The issue now is track layout if I go with the advanced track system.

Have you a sketch of you planned layout? I can draw a Layout with turnouts of your choice and flex track.

The picture number 12 in your Photobucket slideshow? Two double connected circles with an inner sidetrack/siding.

For Advanced Track curves, you can choose fitting curved tie bands or straight bands. Remove at the latter the connections between the ties on the inner side of the curve. Then you can bend it. It's better than the Tillig flexible tie bands. For one meter track, you need 2 rails and 6.1 straight 166mm tie bands. 6.1 because 6 are too short and you can cut off the first and last tie of a band. They have no tie plates and spikes.

I think what I will do is to make use of the bedding track that I have now, and put the layout together, one loop at a time, as I get the track, so there may be a month or so where the layout only runs one train, which is better than no trains at all.
