AstroGoat's HP 4-6-2 Project #1

Postby AstroGoat760 » Mon Feb 12, 2018 4:45 pm

Here is the beginning of a project HP Products 4-6-2 that needs to be completed.

The kit is for the locomotive only, however, I have a surplus eight wheel tender that will fit this locomotive quite nicely.

Does anyone have advice on the best paint to use for the driving wheels?

Flat black, some folks wire up the motor and spin the wheels slowly while spray painting them. Also there are proponents of NeoLube, which is not actually a paint per se.

Before I go further past priming the boiler, I am trying to decide on colours for the loco. Do I go basic black, or do I go Southern Sylvan Green, or do I do something else?

Not really black. It should be dark-dark-dark-grey because flat black hides small details. If you decide to add some wathering with oil leaks - then just use black paint. Moreover there is no dust on the dark grey models )

Paint colours decided on. I think I will withhold the decision and hence the boiler paint colours until final assembly.
