Any buildings?

Any buildings?

Postby Arseny » Fri May 22, 2015 4:44 pm

So, guys, I've showed you the mine building.
I hope it will be possible to produce some more buildings.
So I wonder to know, if you need any new buildings?
If yes, what kind of buildings do you need?

- Railroad stations?
- Some other railroad buildings (coal tower, locomotive shed, interlocking tower/signal post, crossing shanty, ice platform, etc.) ?
- Residential houses?
- Maybe gas station, post office, fire house, church, court, school, bank, diner?..
- Industrial building?
Something else?

Hi Arseny,
Any of the above!
There are probably more railroad stations in TT than any other building, Everyone that made buildings did a station as their first release, from Christoph and Starline in the old days right on up to today, with Saz's Langley Station. And others did some railorad related buildings, but the regular buildings you would see in any town are mostly absent!
I think it was Taxari that produced a nice fire house, it's a three story brick version but it looks like it can easily be cut down to a single to two story version for small towns.
But the houses, stores, gas stations, etc. all would be very useful!

I agree with the "any of the above" sentiment, however my priority is homes and such for my in-planning layout.

I'm particularly interested in small industrial buildings that sidings can go to.

The problem is:
There is no "American" style... there are many!
i.e. Eastern, Western, Mid-Western, Southern, South-Western... etc.
In addition... many railroads had their own unique Standards... which served as a form of brand identification.

So... as more TT modelers move away from 'fantasy'.. towards modeling the prototype, it becomes increasingly difficult to develop any one structure suitable for everyone.

Give me an Espee CS-22 station, a fruit cannery building, and a concrete tilt-up industrial... and I would be a happy boy!
...other modelers... perhaps not.

Arseny, my advice to you is to build what you need and want. If any of the rest want one too, then great. Otherwise do what you like and forget any "requests".

I have to agree with this, although maybe the best choice would be some small-to-medium industrial buildings (such as your colliery, if you're modelling a suitable part of the country), a sort-of generic factory or warehouse like some of Walthers' many kits. Nevertheless...

I am totally with Richard on this, since I model 1950's SP with emphasis on the citrus industry; actually, a citrus packing house rather than a cannery (well, here we go already... ).
Of course, I would also need 12-15 PFE R40-23 steel reefers to populate the scene!

Go for the entire production cycle!
  • The Packing house (citrus, berries, other tree fruits, or even vegetables...)
  • The Cannery (the Tomato Catsup line had a particularly BAD smell...)
  • The Ice Plant and Icing platform
Note: I worked on the Del Monte Fruit Cocktail line as a college kid..
Disclaimer: I NEVER eat any Fruit Cocktail...
