American garbage truck ?

American garbage truck ?

Postby Arseny » Tue Apr 24, 2012 4:14 pm

A new GAZ-51 truck become available - a garbage truck
Looking like this one:

I wonder to know, if it can be used as American garbage truck - of course, if I put the body on the Mack or International/ZiS chassis?
It seems to me that it can work as American one, but maybe I am making a mistake?..

I would say it's close enough. There are a few old ones on this page http://www.ominousweather.com/GarbageTruck.html and there's probably many more different types.

Up until 2 minutes ago I had no clue what an old garbage truck looked like, so I doubt anyone would question it.

It could pass on a layout modeling 35-60 years ago, with some minor tweaking of details.

Very nice, I think it's fine; where was the prototype photo taken?

I've just searched by Google "garbage truck", "old garbage truck", "garbage truck 1950s" or something like that.
If I am not mistaken, I took it here: http://cambridgecivic.com/?cat=50

I have some more photos:

And I've found a lot of different garbage trucks here:

Wow! That's splendid. So your layout is based on U.S. prototype? Someday my layout will be at the point I'll be looking for things like this...

Yes, I want to built layout based on the U.S. theme. Some small freight station (I think, fictional) on the SOO Line railroad, and small city near it, somewhere in Wisconsin or so.

But to say truth, I am not a great layout-builder, and I did not even start it. The only thing I did for today - I assembled Busch's freight station, and I provided myself with cars and trucks...

In addition, I have a very few space for layout, so maybe I'll be able to built it on the tiny plate, only 2'x1'...

But I love to built small scenes. For example:

hayes-log-truck-t1646.html
jeeps-t1597.html
cars-t1306.html

Well you're having fun! Have you considered an under the bed layout? I'm in a very small place too; mine rolls in and out on castor wheels. It just lays on the floor or I can lift it up onto chairs or something.

I checked all the links you sent, some of which I'd already seen. Sometime I will try to find a log truck! One of my industries is going to be logging.
