Does anyone here have preliminary plans to attend the 2019 National Train Show?

2019 National Train Show - Salt Lake City, Utah

Yes, I do. We talked about it a lot lately in our group.

For us it's a 1500 km, 15 hours road trip each way. We can take the layout there either in Bill's van and my car or by renting a small tailer. My car can tow it, same as to Indianapolis.

Contrary to rumours, I haven't found a driving buddy and I wasn’t even looking for one.

TT-West has been able to negotiate for, and obtain, the appropriate authorization to make the trip to Salt Lake City.
The Managing Director is, of course, my WIFE!

The Plan:
I'll drive out for the Convention, using two half-days to travel Interstate 80... 'only' 755 miles / 1215km,
bringing the double-double (2 meters) of TT-Tracks in the Volvo wagon.

Katalin will fly out for the weekend and the NMRA train show... and to visit with her cousin who lives in SLC.

Monday after the show...
Kat and I will begin a multi-day road trip up to Jellystone park, and then over the Beartooth Highway http://beartoothhighway.com to Red Lodge MT, where my Grandfather was raised. We will visit the Custer Battlefield, where my Great-Grandfather was the Reservation Doctor after WW-I and into the 1930's.

We will then come back through Bozeman MT, where my Grandparents met at Montana State University.
With two drivers on the westerly run, we could do the Marathon thing... but may instead make a small deviation to Pyramid NV... where my 3-Great Grandfather led the US Army Regulars at the 2nd battle of Pyramid Lake, June 1860.

Lots of family history to chase... I have never visited ANY of this!!!

That's not a trip, it's an expedition!

WOW, very interesting read.
I remember back in the mid 2000s, my boss who was Custer fan and saw many photos of his trip to the Little Big Horn and vicinity.

Well... I've waited 70 years...
I figure this is the best opportunity to explore some roots.

I -knew- I had family in early California... but I've only become aware of much of these details in the last year.
All that anecdotal 'BS' Grandpa told me... not only turns-out to be true; but is only part of the story!

In any case... Deciding to come to the 2019 National was the tipping point;
I think you can sense the level of commitment to this voyage of discovery!

I hope to see a full crew there!!!!!

I would take you, buddy, as a co-driver any time. All you need to do is show up.

I have already scheduled time-off from work for the 2019 NTS, and a budget is being formulated for the show, so it looks like at least three TT-nutters will be in our group (TTerry177, CaTTwoman281, and myself) at the 2019 NTS.
