It remains to be seen if we will be able to make it, as the kids' school schedule for the 2018-2019 school year has not been posted yet.

Because of my work schedule, I will miss the next two national conventions.

But I plan on attending the Kansas City convention, and plan on driving a truck from San Francisco. I should be retired by then.

It will be a four-door truck, so I can take two passengers (along with a bunch of modules.) If we have
a ton of modules, I'll rent a trailer, too. And, if anyone is inclined, you can fly one way and ride back
the other way. I am leaning toward a hotel near the Country Club area - 2 miles south of the Crown Center and a bus runs every half hour. I don't mind staying at the convention hotel, but I think the parking and trailer fees might get outrageous.

My trip might be a slow one, if I stop and see friends, but you can too.

We will not be able to make the 2018 National Train Show, as the show is about a week after the kids start 2018-2019 school year. We are willing to send stuff to display and such for the 2017, 2018 National Train Shows.

Belay my last, we should be able to make the 2018 NTS with arrangements being made now to accommodate the show and school as well.

We have just reserved our hotel room for the duration of the 2018 National Train Show.

Come Haggis or high water, we are making the 2018 NTS!

Most important thing if we go is to commit to being there. Trains are plentiful, participants not. Bring a phone or tablet with Z21 mobile app installed so you can help us operate trains once in a while.

I like the national shows and I think it's important to bring TT to the attention of the higher-ups. I'm researching what it takes to get there and participate. If no one else from our Vancouver area wants to go then I may bring the modules which I got from Bill in Florida. I got them back home on the train as checked baggage and can travel with them that way. If that happens then the modules can be operated on DC for non-digital trains. If the TT Tracks layout gets there then it would be digital only.

If I go alone then I can handle registration. If others go too, with TTTracks then someone else might want to manage the registration.

This is all preliminary, waiting for feasibility study and expressions of intent.

Terry,

Very little is going to stop me from making the 2018 National Train Show, short of being dead (and even if that were to happen, I will still try to go). We will have our own layouts on display, perhaps if we are both able to go, we can try to be in the same general area, such that we can lend each other a hand with watching layouts and such.

We are in the process of setting aside funds for the show, hotel room has already been reserved, and vehicle prep has started as well.

This is a 6500 km road trip. It can be done in 11 days, including the show. First I would need a buddy whose feet don't smell, can drive a stick with a trailer and is willing to put up with the electronic music I listen to.

Then it means:
  • two weeks trailer rental, $400
  • 11 nights in hotels, $1,500 per person
  • 700 litres of gas, $800
That's $4,200 for two people, plus incidentals like food and drinks.

No matter how much I think about it, it still doesn't make sense. It is very unlikely.

Is a West Coast collaboration possible?
