BCSME operations are fully self sufficient from ticket sales for rides, and they receive no grants or subsidies. The diesel locomotives are battery powered, the steam locomotives are fueled by propane, but one is by coal.
The rides are very popular. The place was busy every time we were there.

Paid attendance on the Monday was over 1700 plus kids. They are expecting over 74,000 paid riders this year.
It was busy in the hall at times.
Interestingly they are not sure of their exact ridership.
They know how many ride tokens they sell each year. They never get them all back and kids under six ride for free.
From a days where they counted everybody they estimate that actual ridership is about 10% more than ride sales, so the 74,000 paid riders may be as high as 82,000 real riders. That is a lot of people through the park on the weekends they are open.
