North American Railroad Preference Survey

Postby CSD » Mon Jan 30, 2012 11:05 am

Hello Folks. This survey is in order to collect information on railway preferences for modelers of North American prototypes. Moving this information here not only makes it easily available for the SW1200 RTR project, but for any who are developing a NA model.

-You can pick as many as you like from the list.

-If you pick other, please leave a note.

-The choices are general and based on the dialogue I've heard so far, so if you have a specific paint job or I've missed something, again, please leave a note.

CSD,

I hope you are able to see how many different votes were cast by the same person on this poll, since one person who lists half a dozen roadname choices is not necessarily going to buy one each of those choices. Some of the roads that fall in the "other" category that had attractive paint schemes are SOU, SAL (red/black), FEC (not likely a big seller, but I'd buy one in either the earlier red/yellow/silver or the later blue with white lettering), Atlantic Coast Line (purple), Illinois Central (orange/white), C&NW and SCL. Also, please don't overlook the Cow/Calf possibility that I mentioned in the original thread.

i voted for other, but honestly, would gladly take undecorated if it keeps the cost of manufacturing down.

Nope. This poll is strictly for possible paint schemes and does not reflect any quantity to be sold. How many people would buy is reflected in the other topic. I want people to chose more than one so that at least one of their choices has a better chance.

Your cow/calf is a good idea and has been noted for sure.

Put in a vote for undecorated too, if you like.

Milwaukee Road orange-and-black is fine.

PRR is not the same as Penn Central. Please don't combine them. You've made a separate option for the 2nd half of Penn Central afterall.
It is like combining DR with DB-Schenker.

Chessie had a great paint scheme, contrasted with the bleh-scheme that the early CSX units used.

I too, would not have an issue with undecorated for cost of production sake.

^^^The UP did have SW9's though. They happen to look just like the 1200's.

This is important to keep in mind - the SW800, SW9, SW900 and SW1200 all looked very, very similar!

My votes were:

Canadian National - any scheme, though green/gold would be my preferred option;
Canadian Pacific - any scheme, though maroon/grey would be my preference;
C&O/Chessie/CSX - I'd get one of these pretty much only if it's C&O;
Great Northern - any, though Big Sky Blue would be the least preferred;
Northern Pacific - any scheme;
Undecorated.

I thought of "other" only after I'd submitted this, but no real loss; I'd go for an Atlantic Coast Line unit in purple or a Seaboard Air Line (but not Seaboard Coast Line or Seaboard System) unit, too.

If you need GN or NP materials, it's almost certain I'd be able to get anything you need, from paint chips for colour matching to lettering diagrams.
