N scale vehicles for TT ?

N scale vehicles for TT ?

Did anybody try to use Fine N Scale vehicles in TT?

Somebody told me that since they are declared as N scale, they are too big for 1:160

There are a lot of different American cars and trucks of 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s:

I've ordered some and I want to try them.
Maybe, they will be suitable for TT, especially if I use TT-scale wheels and so on...

Have you measured any of them? Seems to me they would be too small to look appropriate.

No, of course I did not measured them - I've made the order only few days ago!

Of course, they are not exactly TT. It seems to me they are close to 1:140 (look at the photo comparing it with the 1:150 model).
I want to "enlarge" them optically - use TT-scale wheels, paint them in light colors, and so on.
Maybe they will be suitable for the background.

...But maybe somebody had any experience with the Fine N Scale models?..

Some of Tomytec's Japanese "N scale" cars and trucks are usable, especially some of the busses and trucks, which are closer to 1:130 or 1:135. I have a few, repainted one old 1950s-design tank truck into Shell scheme...

It seems to me that N scale cars would look out of scale if they were close to something that the observer KNEW to be in scale (eg a building, wagon and particularly a human figure). The optical part of the brain is good at making comparisons, but only where the two objects are in close proximity.

Sure. That's why I want to use TT scale wheels. It will "lift" the car.
Also, I want to use them on the background, to create the perspective.
And, finally, if they actually are 1:140 or so, they will not be TOO small... It seems to me that 10-15% deviation is acceptable...

kato n scale japanese is said to be 1:140, but whether this applies to accessories like cars i have no idea. how many people would really know how big a car was compared to a loco? you may be able to get away with it.

Ok, today I've received my package with some Fine N Scale vehicles.
They seem to be closer to the 1:130...1:140 scale.
It seems to me that they are suitable for TT, especially for the background.

I've measured some. 1950 Chevrolet is 33.3 mm length and 14 mm width.
1934 Ford pickup is 13.5 mm width and 31.5 mm length.

Thanks for the photos - they look good! The 1950 Chev would scale out at about 13' 1.5", while a real one would be over 16'. Not a whole lot of difference, but I'm afraid you would stand convicted in the Court of Rivet Counting

Chevrolet seems to be non-proportional, shorter than neccessary. It looks like coupe, not full-size sedan...
