Are sound decoders prototype specific or do they all have the same generic sound?

They are prototype specific, but sounds for all locomotives are not available. There are also some generic ones that can be used as a "close enough". Click on the locomotive types to see and hear a complete list of sounds from ESU.

Perfect. I'm on the ESU site but didn't know they have a section with sound samples.
