At the risk of getting a bit too political... I do think it goes a bit further than just the "legacy" forms of media not being able to handle the internet... I think the powers that be (including the media, governments, etc.) are worried about the internet, because of the ease of which information can travel amongst the masses. Wikileaks for example could not have happened pre-internet; simply put, they want a way to regulate what information we have access to. And I, for one, say bollocks to that.
