TT Scale. The Ideal Scale.

3SMR is 3mm Scale Model Railways, the UK's main 3mm scale supplier outside the 3mm Society, and they are a TT/ 1:120 supplier too.

They are interested in branching into US TT if there is sufficient interest, and to that end have started a USA TT webpage http://ttmodels.co.uk/usa/

Some of the current products are white metal trucks which were part of the masters and molds owned by the late John Fisher, who did the etched SW1200 kit in TT scale.I ordered two types of passenger truck and they arrived today.



The more modern truck is 8'6" wheelbase and the older one is about 6'10" wheelbase. Both are nice, crisply molded castings. As you can see from the site, there are other castings such as Blomberg trucks and six wheel passenger trucks, ladders and a variety of other parts.

Perhaps more exciting, 3SMR has an etched fret from John which contains etched sides and roofs for an E8 and E8B, F7 and F7B, RS2 and GP7. An image of it is posted on the TT_IMS Yahoo group if you wish to see it.

A lot depends on initial interest in the venture as to whether more gets released. So, if folk want those loco etches to hit the market, I would support them.

The etched fret definitely is exciting news, esp. for the RS-2 and F7 (for me, anyways!)

That's if it happens. I don't think Malcolm has been exactly snowed under with orders for the trucks etc. As of last week, I was the only one who had ordered.

It is really up to us to demonstrate that there's a market there. I might ask him for permission to post the pic of the etch on here.

Well, for my part, I've already got the site bookmarked, and my next hobby-related order is going to be placed with him, as this is a venture that needs supporting, and he has a number of items I'm quite interested in.

I just wish I could afford to support every such venture!

Would it be possible to list 3SMR as one of the postings under the TT scale Models sub-forum? This might attract some interest.

For the moment it's worth joining TT_IMS to look at the etch of Es, Fs, RS2 and GP7, which is here:

I'm looking for an Alco RS-2 too! This nice RS-1 should base on a RSD-3 brass etched kit made by John Harmon. Could it be the same as that of which you speak? If so, then I'm very interested in one or two (depends on final price) such kits.

Do you've any of this EMD Blomberg truck? The shown photo on http://ttmodels.co.uk/ doesn't look particularly good.

The castings I ordered were of variable quality. I didn't get any of the EMD Blomberg trucks so cannot comment.

I think 3SMR were hoping to get some interest and support before doing work on the etches, but I think in reality the etches is the main product people want.

I don't know if a joint approach to Malcolm of 3SMR from the TT Scale Society would be a good idea, as it might ensure that if work was done on the etches a certain number of sales would be guaranteed?

This is me thinking out loud, I just have no idea where the project is at now, if at all.
